With every passing day in the dark nights brought upon us by Corona virus, our children are becoming more and more susceptible to the deadliest of diseases. They are losing their immunities and their safety curtains are dropping down. Now, it is upon you what efforts to put, in order to give your children the strength to fight the evils of the Earth.

The basic step towards a disease-free life for your children is to help them in adopting a healthier lifestyle. You can do plenty of stuff that would not only aide them in surviving the Coronavirus outbreak but also bless them in long run.

1-   Healthy diet

There is no problem on this planet which can’t be cured by a healthy diet. Add more carotenoids in your child’s meal, as they are immunity booster phytonutrients. They increase the production of white blood cells in the body, which are in return the front line soldiers against any foreign germ and infection.

A few foods have high levels of probiotics, such as:

  • Yogurt

Your guts have many germs called probiotics which influences the absorption and assimilation of food in our body. Yogurt adds into the body’s immune system by providing more probiotics. So, if you are giving yogurt to your children on daily basis, you are reducing their chances of being infected with colds, ear infections, strep throat and potential viral diseases by 19 %.

  • Nuts

Nuts like almonds and walnuts have Omega-3 fatty acids that enhance the natural immune system of the body.  Omega-3 fatty acids are believed to lessen the number of respiratory infections in humans especially kids. A quick sprinkle of nuts on your snack mix and cereals can save your entire family from the disasters of Covid-19.

  • Fruits and vegetables

Add those fruits in your child’s meals which promise more amount of vitamin C. As it is an immunity booster vitamin and is present in citrus fruits, sweet potatoes, broccoli, and bell peppers etc. Try to set a standard of eating 5 servings (2 tbsp. for toddlers, 1 cup for older kids) of fruits and vegetable a day to help your family thrive in these difficult times.

  • Proteins

The proteins which are obtained from animal resources contain all the essential amino acids and help in the stability of our natural immune systems. These proteins are found in eggs, cheese, poultry, fish and milk. Some vegetarian sources of proteins are rajma, soybeans, pulses and chickpeas.

2-   Sleep routine

It is proven form various recent studies that the sleep deprivation can actually increase your chances of getting an infection. Lack of sleep reduces the natural killer cells of the body that are available as soldiers to attack any invading microbe and cancer cells. This shows that you, very specifically, need to check up on your child’s sleep routine and help him in maintaining a healthier sleep cycle.

  • Ideal sleep cycle

An infant needs approximately 16 hours of sleep a day, while toddlers require 11- 14 hours only. If you have a preschooler, a sleep routine of 10-13 hours per day will be quite satisfactory. There is a further decrease in the demand of napping with age.

3-   Breast feeding and your kid’s immunity

Several white blood cells and turbo-charges immunity enhancing anti bodies are present in your breast milk. These antibodies assist your child in fighting against diarrhea, pneumonia, allergies, meningitis, urinary tract infections and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). It also casts a protection spell on your children that will protect them against Insulin – dependent Diabetes, Colitis, Crohn’s disease and various forms of cancer.

  • Colostrum

Colostrum, also known as “premilk”, is the thin yellow breast milk which is discharged during the first few days after-birth. It is especially rich in many types of disease fighting antibodies. It is recommended for new mothers to feed their babies for at least primary 2-3 months to help them in building their immune systems.  However, ideal breast feeding is suggested to be between 6 months to 2 years for assisting the kids in surviving very harsh environment later in life.

4-   Banish passive smoking

You might not realize it today but if you or your spouse are habitual of smoking, it can ruin your child’s entire life. Cigarette smoke contains over 7000 harmful chemicals many of which are carcinogenic. Since, children breathe at faster rates as compared to adults; their internal defense system is ruined by second hand smoking. The natural detoxification system of children is also less developed which intensifies their chances of getting infections like Bronchitis, acute and chronic Ear Infections, Asthma and SIDS.

So, if you want to protect your children from the adverse impacts of your wicked habits, you need to either quit smoking or at least start avoiding cigarette consumption inside the house.
